From this development group, we all started by refreshing one another with our three different music video ideas, so that we have 12 different ideas to develop from.

Our development groups
Today, as a class we decided to separate ourselves into groups of four, so that we could develop our own ideas and start to work as a team to continue the promo project.
From this development group, we all started by refreshing one another with our three different music video ideas, so that we have 12 different ideas to develop from.

Pitching my initial concepts to the Class
Pitching my initial concepts to the Class
Today I pitched my three music video ideas to the class. Here is a picture taken by one of my classmates of me presenting my ideas to the rest of the class.
Here is a video showing the feedback I received from my class straight after telling them my ideas...
"I really liked the fast car idea because not many people know what the track is about"- Bella (17 years old)
"its an extremely famous song and it is a bit of an issue when you cut to one of your friends singing instead of Tracy Chapman"- Phil (media studies teacher)
"I really like the 3rd idea (the band idea) I think the song works and its a bit different to what everyone else has chosen... the idea of time is a good idea, I don't know whether you could you use shots of like sandtimes, that'll look quite visually interesting" - Harry (17 years old)
"my favourite idea on a whole is the second one but I dont know if we can actually do it well as you want really big landmarks.. but the third one will be a lot more doable" - Chloe (17 years old)
Here is the feedback on recorded on my phone:
Overall the feedback I received was very positive. My favourite idea is still the first idea the 'Fast Car' idea about the family of three and the story of the young teenage girl that goes through a hard life in poverty, as her dad is an alcoholic and her mum and dad have a bad relationship between one another, so she decides to leave her family and start her own life. She meets a partner but he starts to be taking the same path as her dad did and it reflects the exact same scenario that her mum went through with her husband. I wanted to portray the message of poverty to show how hard it is once you are in poverty, it is extremely hard to get out of, its like a chain, that keeps going on and on.
After presenting this music video to the class, I found out that the idea was well thought out and very detailed, however the idea of a narrative is a big ask, and will be quite difficult to make, although if it was created to a very high standard it would be a success, as there is no original music video anywhere that has been made, so I am determined to create a very successful music video.
The other music video idea of mine that was popular was the idea about the band in the garage with the music 'Time is running out' by Muse. My classmates gave me a lot of good feedback about this- they liked how different my idea was and how no one else really has the idea of a rock band in a garage

Target Audience Research
Target Audience Research
In today's lesson we each wrote down our favourite music video on a piece of paper, without showing one another. Phil chose three random music videos, our task then was to analyse the music video and to make notes regarding our thoughts on the video.
Here are the notes I made during class:
The three music videos we studied and analysed in class are the following;
1. Holding onto Heaven- Foxes
- four students liked it abit
- dizziness effect- the camera moves a lot- echoing, arrangement-voice (sounds similar to Florence and the Machine
- visual style
- fashion, quirky style
- choreography
- this music video is aimed at 14-25 year olds- teenage/ young adults- definitely a female stewed audience
-innocent
-feminine
-girly
-fairytales
2. Crazy in Love- Beyoncé
- four students like it a lot (all girls)
- three like it a bit (all girls)
- they said they liked watching Beyonce dance
- it has rhythmic editing
- liked looking at her body- fantasy for girls to be as beautiful as her
- sexual
- costume- reveals her figure-desirable clothes/ fahsionable
The main appeal of the music video is that the girls/ gay males think that Beyonce is amazing and "goddess-like"and love to watch her perform.
The young female audience idolize her beauty and performance.
3. 30 Seconds to Mars- Up in the air
- six like the music video (5 girls and 1 boy)
- they found it visually interesting- especially how they used the camera and then edited it
- the singer is attractive
- the lighting they use is visually appealing
- the art design is very intricate
- decadent - leather
This particular music video applies to a broad variety of people.

Third Music Video Idea
Third Music Video Idea
Time is running out- Muse
Setting: Set in a room/garage where the band play, this room will contain loads of clocks or an illusion of clocks on the wall.
The music video is based around a couple, the main male leader and a girl. When listening to this song it gave me an idea on the theme of clocks/ a flame burning out portraying that his time is running out with this girl he is in love with. There will be shots of the band playing and singing, and the man male singer, close to the microphone.
The image to the left is similar to what I want the band to look like and set out. They are a young male band, there a four of them, in a garage.

There will be close ups of the main singer like the image to the left.
There will be close ups of the main singer like the image to the left.
Costume: they will be an all male band, they will wear greys/dark clothing.
To add a different quirky idea to this music video, instead of seeing their faces, for their costume idea they will be dressed as a normal band, with a clock head/ clock eyes, like the following image below...

Second Music Video Idea
Second Music Video Idea
Prayer in C (Robin Schulz Remix)-Lilly Wood & The Prick and Robin Schulz
The concept of the video consists of no narrative element, however there is a theme running throughout the music video. It begins with a young girl with no paint on her face looking in the mirror
Setting: Starts off with shots and videos of London/town/city in the morning to the night (in fast mode) we watch the streets go past and use effects to show the sunrise and fall. Shots of people going by and cars.
There is no narrative to this music video, I just want to show how alive London becomes as a city during the day and the night. There are many different camera shots we can experiment with, including go pro.
There can be fast edit shot of the sun rising in the morning, to the sun falling in the evening to show time passing by. As they say 'time flies by when you're having fun'.
After the effects of the sunrising and falling I want to show the nightlife of London of a group of boys and girls going clubbing and dancing. I want the video to portray young and free young people drinking, and having a good time. There could also be shots of the daytime, of them in the car on a roadtrip.
Costume: Both the girls and boys will be wearing loose fitted, fashionable, indie clothing.Friday, 1 August 2014
First Music Video Idea
First Music Video Idea
The lyrics to this song tell a narrative tale, which is based around poverty. It tells the story of an unknown person who suffered from poverty. There a clues in the lyrics about the plot of the story and I thought of the idea of:
A family of three, a mother, a father and their young teenage daughter. They live in a small rented apartment, that is unclean and not fit to live in. The mother of this teenage girl divorces her jobless, alcoholic husband, forcing this young girl to have to quit school in order to take care of her dad. This girl grows up into an adult, and leaves her hometown with her partner in the hope of making a better life. The girl falls into the cycle of poverty, as her life begins to mirror her mothers: her partner is unemployed and becomes an alcoholic. She is left alone in the house while her partner spends time drinking with friends. Overall, she has to come and face poverty instead of chasing empty dreams that aren't possible.
It's a tragedy portraying poverty, and the idea of this song is to try and raise awareness, but unfortunately its hard to get out of poverty.
At the beginning of the music video, I think there should be an establishing shot of a young woman playing the guitar in an empty, desolate room, with nothing but her sitting on her chair. They'll be close ups of her fingers playing the guitar, and close ups of her face. As well as the idea of the young woman playing the guitar, I think there should be a story to go with it as well and should keep cutting back and fourth to the woman in the room and the family in poverty, as though the young woman in the room is the narrator.
The costume should consist of natural colours, to convey the misery of poverty. The clothing of the family should be worn out clothes, to show they are poor and only really have the clothes that they are wearing.

The props will consist of the guitar that the woman plays, the alcohol bottles showing the dad is an alcoholic.
