“Blogging is to writing what extreme sports are to athletics: more free-form, more accident-prone, less formal, more alive. It is, in many ways, writing out loud.”

The dancing rehearsal process

The dance rehearsal process

Today, Lauren and I went in the filming studio space to come up with the dancing choreography for the dancers in our music video. We decided to go with Fosse/Pop dancing, which is based around deformed arm movements and leg movements, contractions and a lot of the movement is based on the spot with movements low into the ground.

What is Fosse dancing?
Fosse dancing was created by Bob Fosse. Three of his dance trademarks included turned-in knees, sideways shuffling, and rolled shoulders. Bob Fosse created a unique dance style that is practiced in dance studios throughout the world. His amazing choreography continues to live on through several great Broadway musicals such as "Cabaret", "Damn Yankees" and "Chicago."

Here are the videos of us dancing the two main dance sequences for our music video (Lauren is on the left and I am on the right. We created two different dance phrases for our dances, one with more slow and controlled movements and the other with fast, strong movements.

The next stage now is to rehearse with our dancers to teach them what we have choreographed and to make sure they know it thoroughly without our help and to make sure  they look how we want them to look when they are dancing.
